Basically, for everyone who ever loved Motown, this one just has it ALL. The right group, the right song, the right dresses, and the right performance. This song literally SCREAMS Motown, and justifies everything I ever tried to achieve with Motorcity Records. It all began for me while growing up. At fourteen years old, I discovered the joy of listening to The Velvelettes "Needle In A Haystack", not once, not twice, but probably twenty times a day. I knew every word, every nuance, of Cal Gill's amazingly plaintive vocal. The more obscure Motown groups fascinated me far more than the obvious ones. Which is why, when I started Motorcity, I sought out The Velvelettes and re-recorded my beloved favourite, this amazing classic, "Needle In A Haystack". And these Velvelettes were all four origina...
An Italian artist began the arduous task of finding a needle in a haystack on Thursday (November 13), in a two-day art installation which took the widely-used phrase at its word. New York based Sven Sachsalber will spend 48 hours sifting through the immense pile of hay at the prestigious Palais de Tokyo gallery in Paris, aiming to find a needle hidden in it by gallery President Jean de Loisy. De Loisy explained that there was more to the installation than first met the eye as it explored the complex relationship between words and actions, juxtaposing metaphors for the immensely small and the incomprehensibly large and complex. "I don't think there is anyone, regardless of whether they like modern art or not, who would not be intrigued by this childish question -- can it actually be done...

In this talk, I will explain how machine learning algorithms can help identify patterns from millions of patient records. I will illustrate these application through worked examples, with application to modelling the long-term progression of chronic kidney disease, which is a regression problem; automatically distinguishing type 1 from type 2 diabetes; which is a classification problem, as well as finding patient clusters, which is known as clustering or market segmentation in business parlance. Through these examples, I wish to illustrate that recent advancements in machine learning, coupled with big data technologies, can not only help improve patients' lives but also help policy-makers make better strategic/investment decisions informed by new insights discovered from data.

The Velvelettes with all original members were doing their 1964 hit "Needle In A Haystack" in this 2005 concert. Jack Ashford and the late Joe Hunter, two of the Funk Brothers were playing in this show. Their performance is quite exciting to watchand they perform with class and style.

PyData London 2016 With an inventory of millions of products, finding duplicates is intractable by hand. Neural networks can be used to learn a representation that maps duplicates close together in a manifold. We trained a network to perform multi-task classification. Using this as a basis, we trained a manifold that maps images to a space where duplicates have a small distance and different products have a large distance.
